Deidre Koolen-Bourke

Deidre recently completed her PhD in law at the University of Auckland where she worked as a tutor and graduate teaching assistant for many years prior to joining EDS. Her doctoral research examined the law reform process and the legal system’s response to social and environmental change, with a particular focus on the interface between law, science and culture. Deidre holds a Masters of Laws with First Class Honours in environmental law and undergraduate degrees in law, anthropology and conservation biology. She has published in the areas of indigenous rights and animal law and was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court in 2006.   

Deidre will assist EDS in its legal research and policy work in the areas of conservation and marine (oceans) laws.
