Reclaiming Our Heritage: the NZ Landscape Conference

Co-hosted with the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects.

The New Zealand Landscape Conference was the first conference organised by the Environmental Defence Society.  The conference brought together resource management professionals, real estate professionals, lawyers, planners, conservationists, Māori, developers, local and regional government, landscape architects, coastal specialists and those with an interest in our outstanding landscapes. This event really put landscape issues on the map.

Delegates heard from a range of speakers, including, Dr Peter Simspon, Associate Professor of English, University of Auckland; Judge Laurie Newhook, Environment Court Judge, Auckland; Justice Paul Heath, Judge of the High Court of New Zealand; Professor Malcolm Grant, Professor of Land Economy and Pro-Vice-Chancellor, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom; Hugh Logan, Director General, Department of Conservation; Simon Smale, Landscape Architect, Department of Conservation; Di Lucas, Chair, New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects; Hon Chris Carter, Minister of Conservation; Te Warena Taua, Chief Executive Officer, Te Kawwerau a Maki Trust and Stephen Brown, Lanscape Architect, Stephen Brown Environments Limited.
