Monitoring and enforcement under the spotlight
Senior Policy Analyst Dr Marie Brown is embarking on a new research project, delving in to the state of play in compliance monitoring and enforcement of environmental law in New Zealand.
The research will cover several Acts including the Resource Management Act 1991 and the Wildlife Act 1953. Over May and June she will be travelling to several regions of New Zealand for fieldwork, and in July she will head to Australia to undertake a comparative analysis.
The outcome of the project will be a report early in 2017 that takes a good look at performance and what improvements could be made in this important area of environmental management. The research is sponsored by the New Zealand Law Foundation, Foundation Footprint, and others.
