E-News: December 2016
Thank you for your interest and support during 2016 and best wishes for the holidays from the EDS team!
In this last newsletter at the end of an incredibly busy 2016 we thought we’d do a quick review of the highlights, focusing on policy, litigation and conferences. So here goes!
We ran 2 conferences this year. Wild Places examined the linkages between our burgeoning tourist sector and the need for more investment to protect our precious landscapes and biodiversity. The Australia-New Zealand Climate Change and Business Conference focused on, well, climate change and business. Both were well attended and we’ll run both again in 2017 with an election year focus.
We lost Hugh Jarvis during the year. Hugh was a highly valued EDS Director and is remembered with great fondness and huge respect by all his colleagues. He was passionate about heritage and was presenting expert evidence in support of positive environmental outcomes right to the end. Haere ra, Hugh.
Next year promises to be just as challenging as this one: EDS is a small group but we try to keep focused on strategic outputs. In 2017 we’ll be doing some very serious thinking about major reform of the resource management system, which we think is inevitable and a little bit scary. It’s vital that we stay ahead of the game. We’ll keep you posted and will welcome any ideas.
With very best wishes from the team at EDS to you, your family and friends for the New Year!
